Exercise and Weight Loss

I got a shot in the arm, yesterday, from Mother Nature.  My first brisk walk through my neighborhood, up and down hills in the glorious sunshine.  It was easy going down those hills but harder going back up!  My heart was pounding so hard, thought I’d blow a heart valve.  Time to take off some pounds.

I’m checking out several possibilities, weight loss programs that are so popular right now, are producing astounding results.  I think I need one like that, now!

Swimsuit/shorts weather is sneaking up fast and with the seasons changing early, I better get started. To tell the truth, I should have started last month.

So, stay tuned, I’ll share my findings.

My Thoughts Are Turning to Fitness – Walking

I’m standing at the window, gazing at the covering of snow and listening to the weather report.  I usually ignore the weather reports because they are mostly wrong!  But this one requires my attention.  Today, Tuesday March 6th, we are supposed to reach 52 degrees.  I’m talking, a very warm temperature for mid-winter in Wisconsin.  This is messing with my winter mindset.

I’m still thinking comfort foods, chili, stews and savory roasts with lots of potatoes, carrots and onions, watching the snowflakes fall, feeling the warmth of the fireplace, cuddling up in a warm blanket, watching a movie, popcorn.  Just to mention a few of my favorite things.

Mother Nature has shifted early this year and it’s time to think of getting off the couch and digging out my walking shoes.  I have seen walkers and runners out all winter and have appreciated their dedication.  My dedication has been in hibernation and it’s time to wake it up!  Those winter pounds are coming off!

My plans?  You read my mind – a short walk before work.  It’s time to test out my new Sketchers and put in my ear buds.  Life is good!  (Hope I’m not too sore tomorrow.)

Daylight Saving Time – Spring Forward – It’s Time

Spring seems to be just around the corner and that means Daylight Saving Time is here!  So, do you remember what to do?

On Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 2 a.m. we will set our clocks ahead one hour – this is the beginning of Daylight Saving Time.

I find it interesting that it all started with an idea, thanks to Ben Franklin, to adjust our clocks in order to enjoy the extra hour of sunlight in the summer.  It does give us something to look forward to after the long, cold, blustery winter.  So, say good bye to cabin fever and say hello to the lifting of your spirit.  Let the sun shine in.  Soak it in and take every advantage of it because just as you know, on November 4, 2012 it all goes back to the dreaded turning of the clocks back!

Daylight Saving Time begins on the 2nd Sunday in March and ends on the 1st Sunday in November.

So, remember spring forward and fall backward.

This gets me thinking of – spring planting, plants, bulbs, gardens, pots, containers, and the list goes on.  Spring is just the beginning of new life and expectations.  In what direction does your mind go.?  Cleaning closets?  Getting out of the winter blahs and exercising, walking or maybe shaping up for that summer in the sun?  Me, too!

What’s next?  Stay tuned.
